The forklift is a material handling device used to raise and move loads from one place to another. Every part of a forklift has a specific function. Different parts can be used to transport the load horizontally or vertically.

Mast

The parts utilized to lower and lift the load is known as the forklift mast. There are various types of masts for raising loads to various heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.

Power Supply

Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located inside the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the back of the truck.

Cab

The forklift cab is situated in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all located within the cab.

Frame

The truck frame carries all the largest components of the forklift, like the counterweights, that are situated at the rear so as to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
