There are healthy and safety guidelines governing the utilization of lift trucks. Any huge machinery, such as a lift truck, is potentially dangerous and must be used safely. The rules and regulations state that the driver must perform daily checks on the forklift and more thorough inspections on a weekly basis and on a monthly basis. The following checks need to be performed on the forklift:
Lift Truck Brakes - the brakes are a very important component of the lift truck equipment and therefore they should be double and tripled checked. A brake check is performed with various pedal heights and pressures to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights must be inspected at the same time.
The Tires - forklift tires are also key for the safe functioning of the lift truck and to the braking system. All the tires should be inspected properly to ensure that there are no punctures in the tires and they are inflated to the right pressure.
Controller - the lift truck controller system is inspected by operating the forks and the release to determine that the system is in good working order. Any hint of problems should immediately reported and tended to. The lift truck should not be used until the controller system has been fixed.
Steering Wheel - In order to make sure that the turning of the wheel is right, the driver must check the forklift steering wheel. Lift truck safety depends on the steering wheel functioning accurately and responding well. There are different types of inspections which can be done to determine the performance of the steering wheel.
Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine needs oil. The dipstick would show both the colour of the oil and the level of the oil. The oil must be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination happening.
Fire Extinguisher - all forklift trucks are required to be equipped with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher has to be checked to ensure it would work properly in the event of a fire. Different types of fire extinguisher should be inspected in certain ways. For instance, a dry chemical extinguisher should be shaken.
